Canada Reads taping: A few spots left for students to attend

We have a few tickets/spots remaining for students to join us on our field trip to the final day of taping for Canada Reads 2017.

  • Join other members of ESA’s Own Book Club – students, staff, parents and grads – as we cheer on our favourite books and their defenders the morning of Thursday March 30th.

This past Wednesday we held our own Battle of the Books… and ended with a tie between MG Vassanji’s Nostalgia and Sheila Watt-Cloutier’s A Right to Be Cold.

  • Join us at the live taping and see which book prevails on the real deal…
  • Did we pick it right?

Students, fill out this Google Form to advise of your intent to attend, and then pick up an official TDSB permission form from Ms. Wray on the Monday back from March Break.

ESA’s Own Book Club welcomes new members anytime.  If you’d like to join us for our final meeting of the 2016-17 school year, fill out this Google Form and we’ll be in touch.

White Pine Spotlight: The Emperor of Any Place by Tim Wynne-Jones

The Emperor of Any Place by Tim Wynne Jones

  • Tim Wynne-Jones doing what he does best…  gripping the reader from start to finish with a fantastical story
  • Historical fiction – part mystery, part supernatural thriller
  • Set against the backdrop of the final months of the war in the Pacific
  • Two soldiers – one Japanese, one American – find themselves stranded on a remote and seemingly uninhabited island
  • A story about our shared common humanity and the ways in which the costs of war reverberate down through the generations

Read the review at CM Magazine.

  • Check out Forest Fridays, virtual visits with featured authors.  We will be hosting a couple of them here at ESA.
    • Students are invited to take part in the Festival of Trees, at Harbourfront, on Tuesday May 16th.

  • Permission forms are now available.

  • Permission forms are due back by no later than MONDAY MARCH 20th.
